* Congressman Marty Meehan Is Spamming Me

And I have never been registered with any political party.

For the past year or so, I have been getting unsolicited email from Congressman Marty Meehan, even though I am not registered with any political party (nor have I ever been). I don’t even care what party he’s in (does it matter?). I have avoided saying or writing anything about this until now because, well you know, he’s a Congressman.

But this time I was prepared. The last time I got spammed was 10/17/05. On that day, I clicked the “unsubscribe” link in the email and took a screen-shot of the confirmation. I did not receive any confirmation by email. Here is that confirmation from 10/17/05.

Today, 11/30/05, despite my previous attempts to unsubscribe (to something I never subscribed to), I am back on the list and received the following email. I’m going to try to enclose this in “blockquote” tags and a pair of horizontal lines to set it off from the rest of the body of this page.

Constituent Services | Marty on the Issues | News Releases

Dear Friend,

I would like to invite you to join me for a Town Meeting on the war in Iraq on Saturday, December 3. I will be hosting two meetings that day:

11:00 am
Hudson Town Hall
78 Main Street, Hudson

2:00 pm

Concord Middle School
Peabody Building
1231 Old Marlboro Road, Concord

Nearly three years after being led into war in Iraq, the United States still does not have a plan to succeed and bring our troops home. The Bush Administration says we should stay the course in Iraq. I disagree. I think we need to do more to give our troops the equipment and protection they need — and to implement an exit strategy with a responsible timetable to accelerate the training of Iraqi security forces and start bringing our troops home.

This is a crucial time in the national debate. As Congress continues to consider how to proceed in Iraq, it is critical that we have an open, honest, community-wide discussion on how to return Iraq to the Iraqi people. I am interested in sharing some thoughts with you and I’d like to hear what you have to say.

I hope you’ll be able to come this Saturday. Please RSVP by sending me an e-mail at meehan.tm@mail.house.gov or calling my Lowell office at 978-459-0101.

Sincerely,

Marty Meehan

Note to all spammers: stop spamming me! Spam from Congress. What’s next? Spam from lawyers? Oh yeah, that’s what started it all in the first place (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Card_spam).

If I get a written apology from Congressman Marty Meehan, I will gladly post that. But I’m not holding my breath.
