* Internet-Free Day

The pause that refreshes.

Every now and again, I take a personal day, as I did yesterday. And when I take a personal day, I like to do so in the middle of the week (yesterday was Wednesday). I did not check email, did not read blogs, did not check voice mail, did not read USPS mail. I spent the bulk of the day catching up on project planning. But I also found time to do some reading, clean my closet (giving a bunch of shirts to my oldest son, who, for now, is still shorter than me), and watch American Idol (where my winning streak continues) and the Red Sox (where their winning streak continues).

Of course, when I returned to the office today, I discovered lots to do. For one 24-hour period, I had 119 unread emails and 199 unread blog items. (This, of course, does not count all of the email tagged as spam that has drawn a permanent “do not pass go, do not collect $200, do directly to /dev/null” card.)

So I’ll probably be playing catchup for the rest of the week. But I feel refreshed, so that’s good.

  1. Hi Erik!
    After reading your post I think you may like the idea i am trying to promote as of a couple of days ago. I called it a Commfree Day and the idea is to have one day a month without any media and information technologies. I blogged about it in more detail and you are mostly welcome to take a look, let me know what you think, join in, and spread the word if interested.
    It’ll be great to hear how was your detox week.

    Thank you!
